Sporting a tight-fitting T-shirt and bulging biceps, Sting burst onto the stage shortly before 9:30 p.m. Tuesday evening, accompanied by his guitarist and drummer, before setting the Zénith esplanade ablaze for the first concert of the Le Son by Toulon festival. After a few seconds of introduction, bass in hand, he kicked off the concert with Message in the Bottle, followed a few moments later by a giant karaoke version of Englishman in New York for the audience.
The 9,000 fans couldn't have asked for more to get excited. In a pit that was initially seated, the audience quickly rose to their feet, enthralled by the greatest hits of The Police and Sting's classics. At 72 years old, the British singer, who has lost none of his voice, shouted "How are you Toulon?" and a few calls from the audience in impeccable French.
The organizers of Son by Toulon wanted to make a big splash for the first edition. They succeeded with a concert that will go down in history.
